35 Years After The Chernobyl Disaster – This Is What It Looks Like Today

The Overnight Evacuation of Pripyat

The city was built in order to accommodate the people working in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. Their life and health insurance policies were sorted out by the authorities, given the danger of their work, and all the provisions were made so that they can have a comfortable stay. The city was close to the size of an American coal mining town, and the total number of workers and their families staying there was almost 50,000. Even though the town was considered to be pretty small, Pripyat had one hospital, fifteen schools, three indoor swimming pools, as well as ten different gyms. They were all abandoned at the time of the disaster.
