A pesar de que la flora y la fauna han comenzado a reaparecer en los alrededores de Pripyat y Chernobyl, algunas criaturas siguen prefiriendo mantenerse al margen. Las arañas y los insectos, por ejemplo, parecen evitar esta zona enigmática, y aunque los biólogos no logran descifrar la razón exacta, una cosa es clara: no necesitamos arañas radiactivas al estilo de Spiderman . Por otro lado, las aves que han decidido quedarse son, en su mayoría, de menor tamaño tanto en alas como en cerebro, una señal tal vez de los efectos.
Los efectos de la radiación sobre la fauna continúan siendo un misterio, pero lo cierto es que estos animales parecen adaptarse de una manera inusual. La zona sigue siendo un lugar de estudio constante para comprender cómo los organismos pueden sobrevivir en un ambiente tan hostil.
