USS Tripoli

The USS Tripoli (LHA-7), the second America-class amphibious assault ship, launched on May 1, 2017, but didn’t get commissioned until July 15, 2020. The delay was caused by the pandemic—some crew members tested positive for COVID-19, and the ship had to be cleared for safety.

At 844 feet long and displacing 45,693 tons, the Tripoli is a beast. It’s armed with two rolling airframe missile launchers, two evolved Sea Sparrow missile launchers, and two 20 mm Phalanx CIWS mounts, plus a range of aircraft, including the F-35B Lightning II, MV-22B Osprey, CH-53K King Stallion, and more. It’s basically a floating airbase ready for action.
