From Battleship Classics to High-Tech Terrors, These Warships Bring the Heat!
USS Ohio
The USS Ohio was the first of its class when it launched in 1979 and became the namesake for the now nearly 18 Ohio-class nuclear-powered submarines in the U.S. Navy’s ranks. Nicknamed the “first and finest,” the Ohio truly set the standard, living up to its motto, “Always First.”
Initially, it was designed as an SSBN ballistic missile submarine and was one of the first in its class to undergo a major transformation into an SSGN-guided missile submarine. This conversion pushed the fleet into the 21st century, enhancing its versatility and firepower. The USS Ohio’s pioneering spirit still resonates, highlighting its role as a true icon in naval history.
