“The Land of Fire and Ice:” Exploring the Wonders of Iceland
A Comic Mayor
Jón Gnarr is a stand-up comedian from Iceland who had no political experience, yet he formed the ‘Best Party,’ ran for mayor, and won with a 34.7 percent majority. For four years, from 2010 to 2014, he served as the mayor of Reykjavík. After his term ended, Gnarr wrote a memoir about his experience, which was documented by The Guardian.
In the photo, Gnarr is seen with Heida Helgadottir, the Best Party leader. Gnarr proved that despite having no political experience, one can still make a difference in the city and its people. He used his platform to improve the lives of the people of Reykjavík.
